G-spot Hits the Road on the Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour
Rockin´ and Ragin´, Snarlin´ and Screamin´, The Real Girls of Rock are Back With A Vengeance!
The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour!
"What do you get when you put a bunch of kick-a#$ rock chicks together with a sense of purpose? You get a better world – or at the very least a good step towards one – with one great soundtrack" StephenBailey.com
For the past 5 years Girls Rock & Girls Rule has featured the best female rockers on the music scene and in 2007 they continue their mission of creating awareness and exposure for independent female artists while helping women and girls in the community.
This year´s tour is going to be bigger and better than ever when GRGR storms the Northeast with a lineup of phenomenal performer´s groovin´ on everything from pop-rock to punk to metal to hardcore! And today, GRGR is thrilled to give back to girl rockers in the making through its new partnership with Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.
How will they do this? This year´s GRGR tour is hitting many more cities with artists who play harder than you could imagine. These girls like boys, they play with boys, but they are not "one of the boys" - each gal onstage is fierce, independent, and commands her band with passion and presence, playing songs of triumph, love, sex, politics, fun and freedom, bringing heart and their own unique viewpoint on whatever they happen to be singing about.
The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule tour kicks off in late summer with two special preview shows; August 23 at Maxwell´s in Hoboken, NJ, and September 8 at Katie´s in Long Island. Then, GRGR hits the road for 10 days (from September 22-September 30). After an opening night at DC-9 in Washington, D.C., the GRGR Tour travels to Baltimore, DE, PA, MA, RI, and upstate NY before heading back home to Brooklyn, NY (see full tour schedule below). The shows feature GRGR bands from the past events including four core tour acts: G-spot, Loki the Grump, Marisa Mini and RewBee. These fiery damsels will be partnered in each city with local sister bands. This ensures a strong local audience and gives bands an opportunity to gain exposure with new fans while offering local live music lovers some fresh new sounds they might not otherwise have heard.
Bands that are currently scheduled to appear include: Edible Red, InfernoPhonic, The Catholic Girls, All Out Riot, Dormitory Effect, The Raygun Girls, The Rosies, Emiko, Esmirelda & The Tidbits, Olivia & the Housemates, Emiko, Semiblind, Soraia, Odd Girl Out, The Degenerettes, Shooting Ropes, Prima Donna, Spark is a Diamond, Beyond Blonde , The Lydia Warren Band, If Man Is Five, Pasco Roberts, Covin, Sanity is Chaos, The Turnaround, Silence Bleeds, Cootie Shot, Cheap Perfume, Royal Pink (formed at Ladies Rock Camp) and Luff.. In addition, there may be special guest appearances at select shows from Willie Mae Rock Camp camper bands and a portion of the proceeds from each event and from sponsors will be donated to Willie Mae.
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls was founded in 2004 and is a New York City-based non-profit summer day camp serving girls aged 8-18. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, learn about different types of music, and generally "rock out" in a supportive environment that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity, tolerance, and collaboration. The camp is named after Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, a blues and rock performer/songwriter who was one of the first women to play the music that came to be known as "rock n´ roll." The camp grew out of the Portland, Oregon-based program Rock n´ Roll Camp for Girls, which was founded in 2000. ( www.williemaerockcamp.org)
In addition to the showcases, the Girls Rock & Girls Rule Documentary film is in post-production and scheduled for release in December 2007. It will premiere at the NYC 6th Anniversary showcase, but fans will have a chance to get a sneak peek at tour stops this fall.
Given the challenging state of the music industry, GRGR is on the cutting edge of the next trend in music bringing female rockers to the forefront today. The time has come for a platform that will bring attention to all the fantastic women who are making the kind of music people want to hear. These are not re-touched pop princesses or radio clones. They are unique, original and ready to show the world just how hard they can rock!
GRGR would not be possible without the help of sponsors, partners and contributors, GRGR thanks the following companies for their support of women and the independent music scene; Rolling Rock, Sam Ash, D´Addario, Jakprints, Gibson, Deepwave Studios, Bust Magazine, onlinegigs.com, JVC, and Lunabar.
We welcome your coverage with previews, interviews or live reviews! To learn more about GRGR and the fantastic artists performing, request artist music compilation, guest passes, press kits or to set up an interview, contact Gail Silverman at gail@revolutionaryrecords.com, 646-336-0041 or 917-863-6779.

G. n D. are flyin solo - a very special show at 169 Bar!!
As you know lead singer of G-spot, Gail (that's me) is most known for hard rockin performances with the full band-- well I am stepping out of my comfort zone and doing a sort of solo performance (my bass player extraordinaire Donald will be joining as well) So Just G. n D. yeah baby still crazy after all these years - Aug. was the10 year anniversary for us playin together ya know pretty amazing!
It will still be rockin' but in a very different sort of way! There will be several brand new songs being debuted and a surprise cover! So please come show some support this is a big scary step for me...plus in order to get paid and asked back I need like 10 people at least so come down it would be great to see some friendly faces in the audience! is it the start of something new well that remains to be seen!
Also immediately following us will the awesome Marissa Minnie (who I met at Rock Camp this summer - we played in the volunteer band together) rockin it solo as well!
For those that don't know I volunteered this summer for a week at Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls in Brooklyn as a counselor and band coach and fronted the 16 piece (yes I am not kidding 7 guitars, 3 bass's, 2 drummers, a horn section and a violin!) volunteer band - we covered the Runaways song cherry bomb and all the girls were going crazy I think it was the best audience I ever had! It was a truly memorable and awesome week! If you have girls 8-18 send them next summer they'll love it! http://www.williemaerockcamp.org

We know we know it's been so long...Just a quick note to let you know G-spot is back! After a long hiatus and a trip to Africa (well for Gail anyway and yes I wrote some new songs, to be debuted later this summer). We kick off the summer season with a new guitar player whose name is Ed Kuri - so make sure to join us to welcome him to the fold at our first NYC show since January at the Knitting Factory - we will be playing with two of our friends and fave local bands Loki the Grump and Edible Red!!! This is one show you don't want to miss! So much great music in one place! Plus this will probably be our only NYC summer show as we are hitting the road for the 2006 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour!! Yes it's happening - we are already booked in several cities along the East Coast and we are making a movie too!! For all the details on GRGR visit www.revolutionaryrecords.com or go to the gig page to check out the stops!! Hope to see you on the 28th!

The 4th Annual Girls Rock and Girls Rule Showcase was a huge success raising $900 for the Battered Women's Resource Center, Voices of Women Organizing Project!
This year's line-up was absolutely amazing - truly rockin' chicas! Kicking off the night hard and fast was trio 777s grungy punky rock. Next up was Emiko, who bravely launched her new EP, Becoming Marina at the event inspired by her own experience with Domestic Violence -- her band and voice were absolutely stellar! Next putting the fun back in Grumpy was the hi-energy punk sounds of Loki the Grump - special thanks to their guitarist and bass player Phil and Howie for generously loaning their equipment for the evening! Following Loki was well us,
G-spot fronted by moi (what you think I'm not gonna play my creation that I put so much work into ;) ), Of course I quickly switched hats from host and emcee to crazy rock diva - and backed by my awesome boys Donald, Topher and Phil we rocked old favorites and debuted 2 new songs "Step Away" - a rock, hiphoppish number about letting go of the day job and little song called "Life is Strange" inspired by a summer bus trip and a very STRANGE relationship! Next up Tang all the way from Hoboken, NJ -- can't say enough about how awesome their set was - tight, rockin led by the super sexy, vocally gifted Elaine! Closing the night last but certainly not least was the "Queen" - Queen V. unplugged - still managed to keep us rockin into the wee hours - big congratulations to Queen V. who opens for Bon Jovi at the Meadowlands on Dec. 21 - glad we got her to play our little show before she totally blows up and becomes famous! Just can't say enough about the caliber of talent that night! Huge thanks to all who participated!
Some other thanks are in order: Joey and his team for hosting the night at Ace of Clubs and helping us put on a great show, to Paul, Lynn and the Soundman (sorry whose name is escaping me!).
To all our sponsor contributors Daisy Rock, Luna Bar, Red Envelope, Nokia, Shri Yoga, GoGirlsMusic.com, ASCAP, XL Graphics -- the new addition of the Daisy Rock guitar was definitely a high point of the evening - everyone wanted it in all its Purple Glory! And I am pretty sure the Luna Bars served as several peoples dinner including my own! To Nick, Tom and Andrew The posters and postcards looked amazing this year! We also had several photographers snapping away all evening - check back soon to check out photos from the event!
And I am excited to report that the Girls Rock and Girls Rule platform is definitely growing in 2006 - already we have 5-6 partners in cities along the East Coast who want to help us put on events in Ithaca, PA, Long Island and DC/Baltimore so check back early next year for tour dates. And if you're interested in co-hosting a show in your town or sponsoring the tour contact us at gail@revolutionaryrecords.com! Looking forward to the 5th Anniversary next Dec!

Can you believe its time for Revolutionary Records 4th Annual Girls Rock & Girls Rule! Proceeds to once again benefit the Voices of Women Organizing Project, Battered Women´s Resource Center!
Don´t miss a stellar line-up of NYC & NJ´s Hottest Indie Femmes When They Come Together to Rock Your World at the 4th Annual Girls Rock & Girls Rule Showcase!
With a chance to win a Purple Passion Stardust Retro-H Special guitar and other fabulous prizes!
This year´s Girls Rock & Girls Rule show will take place on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Ace of Clubs in New York City and promises hands down to be the best show yet. This year´s line-up will feature some of the best female rockers New York City has to offer including 777s, Emiko, Loki the Grump, G-spot, and Queen V as well as special guest, Tang from Hoboken, NJ. There is a $10.00 tax-deductible donation & proceeds will benefit The Voices of Women Organizing Project (V.O.W.) of the Battered Women's Resource Center.
The original Girls Rock & Girls Rule Showcase event launched in 2002 at Meow Mix in NYC to showcase girls who seriously know how to ROCK! Revolutionary Records and the Girls Rock & Girls Rule event was created by Gail Silverman, who is also the lead singer of G-spot. Knowing first-hand the challenges of trying to make it as an independent artist as well as the difficulties of women gaining recognition on the "rock" scene, Gail wanted to create an event that would highlight all the fantastic female rockers that were out there. "There were so many talented independent bands that were fronted by females that I had heard around the city and I felt that they were not being recognized nor truly having their voices heard" says Gail. "By bringing these powerful artists together at one event we are really able to make some noise and create a buzz for the performers as well as expose them to new audiences. At the same time I felt it was important give something back to the community so in the second year of the event we made the decision to have proceeds from each event benefit a local charity".
About V.O.W.:
Since 2002, V.O.W. has been providing the women of New York City with the opportunity to organize, develop their leadership skills and effect domestic violence policy. Survivors of domestic violence are given the training and support they need to influence, change and improve the systems that allow domestic violence to continue. "We are thrilled to once again be part of this exciting event where women musicians are lending their beautiful voices and talent to benefit our organization. Through these types of partnerships where women come together to help each other we can make a real difference in the lives of battered women and their children", says Susan Lob, Director of the Battered Women´s Resource Center, which staffs VOW. G-spot headed upstate a couple of weeks ago to Ithaca and Elmira for a weekend of back to back shows! Other then the hideous traffic getting up there, 61/2 hours from NYC in the pouring rain and a little drama with our accomodations it was a fun weekend and the shows were a blast! People upstate are so nice and receptive and actually appreciate seeing live music and let you know it! We had a fun interview on the radio station WGNZ 104.3 and a big feature in The Buzz!
Friday night was pretty crazy we barely made our show at the Amp skidding into the parking lot for our 10:00p gig at 10:20p and changing in the back seat of a car and jumping straight on stage! But it was a great weekend and all the shows were totally rockin'! Steve the owner of the Amp was great and asked us back immediately after our set. We were supposed to stay at this youth center with another band Terminal Inertia from PA (who are a really cool bunch by the way and we look forward to bringing them to NY soon), anyway there was a little mishap with a fire alarm, so we found ourselves at the Mark Twain Motor Lodge (yes Elmira is where MT is from - we even visited his grave - well you know there is not a whole lot to do up there in the rain between shows).
So me and the boys had some bonding time and even started writing a new song on Sunday. My favorite moment was when Phil set up a mock drum kit that included a refrigerator, a microwave, a kick pedal and some sticks! We won't talk about the snoring!
Saturday we drove up to Ithaca to play The Haunt, you have got to love the sound system and stage in that place -- I can actually hear myself! Sunday we played at kind of down and dirty bar in Elmira called Gushes! The crowd was awesome fun asking us to sign autographs and CDS and just generally making us feel like rock stars! We also really enjoyed hanging with our new friends from Terminal Inertia and meeting fellow girl fronted rockers SuperDrive!
I have to mention that this road trip would not have been possible without Stanley Bastilla and the band Ironcore, they help us put together all the bookings, promote the show and provided a backline for our use the entire weekend! Every gig should be this easy! They were really fantastic and we are also trying to get them to NYC as well. So thank you guys!
Oct. 15 we played MeanyFest here in NYC at CB's Gallery, if you missed it too bad, because not to toot my own horn but this was a kick ass show! The band was totally on their game even if my poor Donald was sick with a cold! I don't think we won, but it was fun anyway.
And guess what... the time of year is fast approaching - Revolutionary Records 4th Annual Girls Rock and Girls Rule Showcase! It's December 1, at Ace of Clubs - the line-up is incredible (Emiko, Loki the Grump, G-spot, Tang, Queen V, & 777s) and the show willl once again benefit VOW, Battered Womens Resource Center -- go to the gig page for more info!
Sunday, September 11th, 2005 5:50 PM
There is actually quite a bit new...so where to start -- first an acknowledgement, I know everyone took a pause today in remembrance of Sept. 11 - it's hard to believe it's been 4 years.
Once again there is another city facing a disaster and just like everyone reached out to help NY, I think we are all trying to find ways to help the victims of Katrina. So right now until we deem otherwise, all profits from "Come Here Go Away" sales on CD Baby will go to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to benefit the victims of Katrina. Thousands of CD Baby artists are generously taking part in this effort, so if you don't have your copy of G-spot's most recent release its a great time to get one and go ahead and pick up a couple of others while you're there! You can get some great music and help out at the same time!
Big TV news for G-spot, we got our first TV placement, title track "Come Here, Go Away" is going to be featured on a new A&E network show called "Lonestar Rollergirls" which launches in January, I'll post the air date for the episode as soon as I know it, so everyone can tune in. The cool thing is that the Music Supervisor for the show also does music for MTV's Laguna Beach and has mentioned he might be able to place us there as well...Stay Tuned!
Its been a quiet couple of months gig wise, guess we're getting more selective or I am just tired! Anyway lots of good stuff coming up! For those of you upstate G-spot is hitting the road again Oct.7-9, we are off to Ithaca and Elmira to do a series of shows! Stan from elmiramusic.com has been a tremendous help in hooking us up with a nice little weekend tour up there! We'll be headlining all 3 shows that weekend and playing with a band called IronCore and some other cool local bands. For details visit the gig page!
As to NYC shows those are coming up as well, we have been selected to play this year's Meanyfest which takes place around NYC at several clubs from Oct. 12-22, apparently the audience votes on their favorite bands and if we win we get prizes and to play in the finals in December. For details www.meanyfest.com. I'll post the date and venue as soon as I have it, hope you'll come down and show your love and support. The only other NYC show we will play this year will be the 4th Annual (can you believe it), Girls Rock and Girls Rule Showcase in early Dec. - should have details on that in the next few weeks. We will once again be showcasing the best rockin girls in this city -- once again we are working with VOW, Battered Womens Resource Center, however we are discussing having the proceeds this year go to their sister organization in Louisiana to help them rebuild the shelters destroyed by Katrina.
Well I think that covers it! Peace Love Light to all of you!
Sunday, August 21st, 2005 7:16 PM
Sorry to be so out of touch, as you know we had a quite a fews shows in June and July so have been kind of taking a break for August (in music anyway - life still seems busy as ever). Working on some gigs for the Fall and you'll know as soon as I do. I'm currently in the process of a commitment to pick up my guitar at least 15 minutes a day for the next 40 days -- so hopefully by the time you see us next one I'll play better and two hopefully we'll have a couple of new tunes for your listening pleasure! D. and I started writing one last night that I think might work out!
The first Girls Rock and Girls Rule the Road event July 20 Maxwells in Hoboken was a big success. All the bands (For the Love of Nancy, Tang, Eugene and of course G-spot) proved once again the caliber of talent that's out there and that Girls seriously know how to ROCK!!! And we raised over $1000 for Reachout H.E.R.O. program for Breast Cancer Awareness. Unfortunately the next GRGRTR event scheduled for RI in Oct. has been postpned again, no new date at the moment, but the good news is I am starting to plan can you believe, the 4th Annual Girls Rock and Girls Rule in NYC in early Dec.
But the biggest news of the summer is G-spot's music is finally making it to TV -- "Come Here Go Away" the title track from the CD has been placed in a new show "Lonestar DerbyGirls" that will air beginning in January on A&E. The shows music supervisor is really supportive of G-spot and has said that there will probably be other placements as well. Also he does music for MTV's Laguna Beach so there is a good chance we will get a placement on their as well! I'll post info with dates and times when I have them. Well that's the big stuff stay tuned!
